Maitre d’ Hotel

This position may also be called: Maitre D, Restaurant Manager, Headwaiter, or Host

The Maitre d’ Hotel is in charge of the wait staff in the restaurants, lounges and bars on a cruise ship. They ensure that everything is in order, assigns the wait staff to their sections of the restaurants, and keeps the eating and dining experience to a high standard for all guests.

The responsibilities of the Maitre d’ Hotel are to ensure that all wait staff are properly trained and perform above the guest’s expectations. They often:

  • Help set up for breakfast.
  • Seats all the guests.
  • Supervises the preparation and decoration of all restaurant tables.
  • Makes rounds of all restaurants and bars to ensure cleanliness.
  • Meet with wait staff and handle complaints.

Applicants need to be able to speak and write in excellent English, and other languages may be necessary. You will need to have at least three years of experience working in a similar position in a five-star restaurant, hotel, or cruise ship.

Compensation: $3,000 – $3,500 a month
