Bakers

This position is also called: Baker Supervisor, Baker Trainee

One of the best experiences that people look forward to on a cruise ship is to taste the excellent food that is served there every day. The baker is just one person – among many other cooks – who helps to prepare the delicious baked foods that are so tantalizing.

Cruise ships usually have several restaurants and each one needs to be keep well-stocked with baked goods such as pastries and desserts. On a smaller ship, a baker will also help in preparing other foods, too. Some baked goods will have to be prepared for those who have special dietary restrictions. Like other cook staff, a baker will also help with galley sanitation, safety, and cleanliness.

A cruise ship baker needs to be a graduate from a culinary school and be at least 21 years old. You will also need to have a couple of years of experience working either on a cruise ship or in a five-star resort. Being able to make everything from scratch is also essential. Contracts are often made for a several month period. A baker trainee is expected to have at least one year experience in a restaurant or hotel.
