Cocktail Servers

May also be called: Bar Server, Bar Steward, Bar Stewardess, Cocktail Waiter, Cocktail Waitress

The Cocktail Server provides passengers with alcoholic beverages in the various places where they are served on the ship. They may also suggest various cocktails, wines, or beer to the guests, and will also present them with the bill.

In Focus: Beverage Server

The Bar Steward needs to be familiar with the details of all types of the various wines, beers, cocktails and other drinks, to be able to promote the sale or upsell of beverages to the passengers, so that the sales goals are met. They also help with stocking the various bars on the ship, and they are expected to receive training in the form of courses and meetings that will enable them to be promoted to higher positions on the ship.

A Cocktail Server needs to have a High School Diploma, and at least one year of experience serving beverages in a bar, a hotel, or on a cruise ship. They must speak good English, and other languages are even better. Friendliness is expected, and part of the salary will come from commissions. Some math skills are also necessary. Contracts are usually available for several months.
