Buffet Servers

This position may also be called: Buffet Steward, Stewardess

Making sure that the various buffets on a cruise ship are well-stocked and neat is one of the jobs of the Buffet Server. They also serve food from the buffets, providing passengers with the first-class service that is expected from a cruise ship.

Their job also entails clearing and cleaning the tables in the restaurant, and taking the dirty dishes to where they can be washed. They also set up the tables for the guests and other crew members who are allowed to eat there with linens, glassware, china, and silverware, and are responsible to help minimize breakage costs. They also serve non-alcoholic drinks.

A Buffet Server is an entry level position into the Food and Beverage Division on the ship, although some previous experience may be required. A H.S. Diploma is needed, along with a friendly attitude and a good command of English. Tips are going to be part of the pay, so good service with speed is expected. Good servers can expect to be promoted. Contracts usually run for several months.
