Cruise ships offer a number of bars to their passengers to ensure that their cruise experience is all that they want it to be. For a smooth operation, a bar back keeps the bar constantly stocked and cleaned, and helps to provide excellent service to its patrons.

The bar back is responsible to keep the bar (or bars) stocked with things like liquor, fruit, ice, napkins, etc. They will also check ID’s to verify appropriate age, take orders, serve and mix drinks as needed, collect payment, and clean glasses and other bar equipment, including tables, bars, and other work areas. They arrange the bottles and glasses in an attractive order. They also need to help limit excessive drinking.

In most cases, no formal education is required, except for a H.S. Diploma or GED. You will need to have an Alcohol Server’s License, have excellent English, and be at least 21. Experience of at least six months will also be expected. Being able to lift and carry objects is necessary, too.
