Computer Systems Manager & IT Managers
This position may also be called: Info Systems Manager
Many of the systems in the Hotel Department on a cruise ship are operated by computers. It is the task of the Computer Systems Manager to direct the department and staff that operates and maintains the computers, as well as adding new systems to the network.
The manager is responsible for ensuring that the computer continues to operate so that onboard guests can benefit from the Internet, and so that shipboard hotel staff can perform their duties as well where computers are required. The IT Manager:
- Directs the installation of new hardware and software.
- Performs troubleshooting when needed.
- Ensures the security of the network.
- Determines the objectives and approach to daily projects.
- Evaluates new software and the IT Staff.
A Computer Systems Manager needs to have a Degree in Computer Science and managerial experience. They need to be very knowledgeable of computer systems, speak excellent English, and must also have major software experience. Contracts are available for several months at a time.
