There are 44 cruise ships under construction or on order for deliveries through 2012. This is in addition to the 81 cruise ships major cruise line companies introduced from 2000 - 2007. As this boom continues, 2009 is going to be outstanding year for new cruise ships. Currently, their are eleven cruise ships scheduled to take their maiden voyages. This is great news for those looking for cruise ship employment and other cruise line employment. Each of these new ships provides an average of over 1,100 new jobs needed to staff the cruise ship and and an additional 500+ jobs to provide the support services.

Azamara Quest - Azamara Cruises will launch it's newest cruise ship Azamara Quest on Oct. 26, 2007. The 4.5-star Quest will carry 710 passengers.

Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival Miracle - The Carnival Miracle took her maiden voyage in February 2004. The 2,124-passenger and 88,500-ton ship' home port is Tampa, Florida. However, the Carnival Miracle also does a series of special sailings from Jacksonville, Baltimore and New York City throughout the spring and summer.

Carnival Valor - The 3,710 passenger Carnival Valor took her inaugural cruise in Dec. 2004.

Carnival Liberty - The 3,700 passenger Carnival Liberty took her inaugural voyage in July 2005.

Carnival Freedom - The 2,974 passenger Carnival Freedom took her inaugural voyage in February 2007. The 110,000-ton ship will sail the Caribbean.

Carnival Splendor - The 3,006 passenger Carnival Splendor will take her inaugural voyage in July 13, 2008. The 4.5-star cruise ship will be Carnival's largest and most innovative cruise ship to-date. The Splendor will feature Carnival's signature Seaside Theatre, a retractable ky dome, and a two-deck spa.

Carnival Dream - The 3,650 passenger Carnival Dream is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise in the fall of 2009. The ship will sail in the Caribbean.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Solstice - The 5-star Celebrity Solstice will take her inaugural cruise on December 14, 2008. The Solstice will feature world class amenities as well as a variety of restaurant and nightlife options.

Celebrity Equinox - The luxury cruise ship, the Celebrity Equinox is scheduled for deliver in the summer of 2009. The 2,850 passenger cruise ship will sail in Europe and the Caribbean.

Costa Cruise Lines

Costa Magica - The Costa Magica took her inaugural cruise in November 2004. She is one of the largest cruise ships in Costa's fleet. The Costa Magica will host 2,720 guests and have four restaurants, 11 bars, a three story theater, three swimming pools, a casino, a disco, and a ballroom.

Costa Concordia - Costa Cruise Lines launched the Costa Concordia in July, 2006. This 5-star ship is one of the most innovative cruise ships afloat. The ship has three swimming pools (two of which have retractable roofs) and has thirteen bars and lounges. The Costa Concordia also featured a 20,500 square-foot Samsura Spa which houses a state-of-the-art fitness center, thalassotherapy pool and salon.

Costa Serena - The Costa Serena took her inaugural cruise in May 2007. The 112,000-ton ship currently sails the Mediterranean and carries 3,000 passengers.

Costa Luminosa - The 2,260 passenger Costa Luminosa is scheduled for delivery in April 2009.

Costa Pacifica - The 3,000 passenger Costa Pacifica is scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2009. This cruise ship will sail in the Mediterranean.

Cunard Line Ltd

Queen Mary 2 - The Queen Mary 2 is the largest and most expensive passenger vessel ever built and provides the perfect setting for a leisurely cruise vacation. The QM2 boasts a two-story theater, a casino, boutiques, and five swimming pools. It also has a children's program with nannies and youth coordinators, a planetarium (the first at sea), virtual reality rides and an amazing spa. The Queen Mary 2 is 1,132 feet long and 135 feet wide.

Queen Victoria - The Queen Victoria is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise on Dec 11, 2007. The 90,000-ton ship will sail a combination of European and Caribbean itineraries and carry 2,014 passengers. The 5-star Queen Victoria will have a spectacular indoor/outdoor Winter Garden, a multi-tiered Grand Lobby, private box seats in the Royal Court Theater, and a two-story library housing over 6,000 books. The ship will also have a variety of nightlife options ranging from a traditional English Pub to an upscale Champagne Bar.

Holland America Line

Westerdam - In April 2004, the ms Westerdam took her inaugural voyage. The cruise ship spent her first year in Europe and the Caribbean. The vessel hosts 1,848 passengers and has six lounges, bars and nightclubs and a wonderful spa and salon. This cruise ship also has a higher space per person ration than any other Holland America cruise ship.

Noordam - On February 22, 2006, Holland America Line launched the Noordam. The 1,848 passenger 5-star Noordam featured a high space-per-passenger ratio and has a number of innovative amenities such as Internet data ports in every stateroom, a Cultural Arts Center and thermal suites in the Greenhouse Spa. The Noordam is a sister ship to the Zuiderdam, Oosterdam and Westerdam.

Eurodam - The 2,044 passenger Eurodam is scheduled to take her maiden voyage on July 5, 2008. The all-new 5-star Eurodam represents Holland America's next class of premium vessel and is Holland America's largest cruise ship.

MSC Cruises

MSC Musica - MSC's Musica was launched on July 1, 2006. As of launch, this is largest cruise ship in MCS's fleet carrying 3,013 passengers. It sailed its inaugural season in the Mediterranean. The Musica features a 7,000 square foot casino and a 13,000 square foot spa and beauty salon.

Orchestra - The Orchestra took her inaugural cruise in spring 2007. The 90,000-ton ship sails a combination of Mediterranean and Caribbean itineraries and carries 2,550 passengers.

Splendida - The 3,300 passenger Splendida is scheduled for delivery in April 2009. This cruise ship will sail in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

NCL America

Pride of Aloha - Norwegian Cruise Line transformed its cruise ship the Norwegian Sky to the Pride of Aloha. Since October 2004, she is sailing three- and four-day cruises from Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pride of America - The Norwegian Cruise Line Pride of America took her inaugural voice in June 2005. The Pride of America is U.S. Flagged and is based in Honolulu. She sails on seven night inter-island Hawaiian cruises. This ship operate under U.S. labor laws which means that a full range of jobs are open to U.S. citizens.

Pride of Hawaii - Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of Hawaii joined the fleet on June 19, 2006 and is sailing seven day itineraries from Honolulu Hawaii. This cruise ship has ten different restaurants as well as twelve bars and lounges. This is currently the largest of the NCL-America fleet and will carry 2,816 passengers.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Pride of America - The 2,146 passenger Pride of America took her inaugural voyage on June 25, 2005.

Norwegian Jewel - Norwegian Cruise Line launched the Norwegian Jewel in August 2005.

Norwegian Pearl - The Norwegian Pearl took her inaugural cruise in February 2007. The 93,000-ton ship sails Caribbean itineraries and carries 2,400 passengers.

Norwegian Gem - The Norwegian Gem is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise on October 8, 2007. The 93,000-ton ship will sail Caribbean itineraries and carry 2,384 passengers. The all-new 4.5-star cruise ship will feature a moon-lit bowling alley and impressive entertainment complex, 11 bars and lounges and 12 restaurants.

Norwegian Jade - The Norwegian Jade is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise on February 16, 2008. This cruise ship was originally built in 2006 as the Pride of Hawaii. The 4.5-star Norwegian Jade will feature 12 international restaurants and 10 different bars and restaurants.

"Project F3" - The latest Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship is scheduled for delivery in fall 2009. This is a very large cruise ship with a capacity of 4,200 passengers.

Oceania Cruises

Insignia - In April 2004, the new cruise line, Oceania, debuted its second cruise ship Insignia. The inaugural voyage sailed from Barcelona to Athens and spent the spring season in the Mediterranean. In the summer, the Insignia sailed around the British Isles, Norwegian fjords, and the North Cape before heading back to the Mediterranean for autumn cruising. The Insignia carries 684 passengers.

Princess Cruises

Diamond Princess - In March 2004, the 2,670 passenger Diamond Princess set sail for Mexico and the Pacific Northwest. This cruise ship has four swimming pools, a wedding chapel, a nine hole golf course and large discos.

Caribbean Princess - The Caribbean Princess first sailed on April 3, 2004. This cruise ship sails from Ft. Lauderdale to Eastern and Western Caribbean destinations. The Caribbean Princess is now the largest cruise ship in Princess Cruises' fleet. She has a 300 square foot LED screen for watching movies poolside and the line's first in-house Lotus Spa.

Sea Princess - The 1,950 passenger Sea Princess took her inaugural voyage on April 28, 2005.

Caribbean Princess 2 - The Caribbean Princess 2 took its inaugural cruise in May 2005

Sapphire Princess - The Sapphire Princess is the sister ship to the Diamond Princess and debuted in June 2005. This cruise ship sails to Hawaii, Australia and the Pacific Coast (including Alaska).

Crown Princess - On June 14, 2006, Princess Cruises launched the 3,120 passenger Crown Princess. The cruise ship has a huge youth center which includes a kids-only pool. This cruise ship is a sister-ship to the Caribbean Princess.

Emerald Princess - The Emerald Princess took her inaugural cruise in March 2007. The 116,000-ton ship sails Caribbean itineraries and carries 3,100 passengers.

Ruby Princess - Princess Cruises newest cruise ship, Ruby Princess, is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise on Nov. 15, 2008. This 5-star mega cruise ship will carry 3,080 passengers and have a variety of great amenities, restaurants and nightlife options. The cruise ship will also feature a Lotus Spa.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd

Jewel of the Seas - The Jewel of the Sea set sail on April 28, 2004. This cruise ship features a rock climbing wall, theme bars and lounges, a specialty coffee house, a golf simulator, and a day spa and fitness center. The Jewel of the Sea hosts 2,501 passengers.

Freedom of the Seas - On June 4, 2006, Royal Caribbean Cruises is launched this huge new cruise ship. The Freedom of the Sea was the most anticipated cruise ship since the Queen Mary 2 was launched in early 2004. This cruise ship carries 4,370 passengers and at launch is the largest passenger ship afloat. The Freedom of the Sea has an ice-skating rink, a rock-climbing wall, an interactive water playground, and two hot tubs that are cantilevered out 12 feet from the sides of the ship. The cruise ship also has extensive WiFi capabilities and connectivity for cell phones.

Freedom 2 - The Freedom 2 is scheduled to take her inaugural cruise in April 2007. The huge 158,000-ton ship will sail Caribbean itineraries and carry 3,600 passengers.

Project Genesis - This cruise ship will be one of the largest ever built carrying 5,400 passengers. The cruise ship is scheduled to sail in the Fall of 2009. This cruise ship will sail in the Caribbean.

Silversea

Silver Spirit - This 6-star, 540-passenger cruise ship is scheduled to taker her inaugural voyage in late 2009. This cruise ship will be the largest in the Silversea fleet, but will still offer the same luxurious, intimate surroundings the Silversea patrons have come to expect.

Two other Silversea cruise ships are scheduled for month-long refurbishments. The Silver Wind is scheduled to be refurbished in November 2008 and the Silver Cloud in May 2009.
