However, if you  plan to spend time and money at the various ports of call, you will want to  take some money with you, and you may not be able to use American or your  native currency. Find out from the captain or owner if you&#8217;ll need other  currencies, and get it before you leave. You should also consider having your  paycheck directly deposited into your bank account. That way you won&#8217;t have to  carry large amounts of cash with you or worry about where to keep it onboard. Doing  this also ensures that any bills you&#8217;ve prearranged to have paid while you&#8217;re  gone (see the next section) are covered.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to  packing, there aren&#8217;t many items you&#8217;ll need. You will be provided with  uniforms or you will be required to provide your own clothing items that  conform to uniform standards, such as khaki shorts, a specific color polo  shirt, etc. Other than these and your undergarments and toiletries, you won&#8217;t  need to pack much more, other than a swimsuit or two and a few items of  clothing and shoes to wear during the hours you are off-duty. However, the  general rule is to pack as lightly as possible. You will be sharing a cabin,  and space is limited.
