While on the ship, guests are taken care of by a Cruise Host, perhaps, who provides information and activities onboard ship, as well as information about what to expect in the next port of call. <\/p>\n
Then the guests leave the ship to explore the port and the area. If they do that in the company of a Shore Excursion Host, who is a tour guide, then they depart for an afternoon or a day of exploration and adventure. If they leave for a multi-day trip on a tour bus, they are in the care of a tour director, and perhaps a driver-guide. Cruises to Alaska often offer a week-long land tour to complement the week’s cruise to Anchorage. If the driver provides the commentary while the tour director handles logistics, then the tour has a driver-guide. If the tour director provides the commentary plus handles the logistics, the driver is simply the driver. At the end of the week, the tour bus returns guests to the cruise ship, which pulls anchor, and the cruise portion continues.<\/p>\n
