During their watch, they are in charge  of the bridge, and ensure that all bridge operations and navigational equipment  are functioning properly.<\/p>\n<p>It  is the job of the First Officer to ensure that the ship&#8217;s operations meet the  standards for safety, security and environment, and that all indicator panels  and alarms are constantly being watched. They also:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"arrow\">\n<li>Ensures  bridge discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains  all navigational equipment, lights, emergency signaling equipment, lifeboats  and life vests.<\/li>\n<li>Keep  in contact with gangway guards in port. <\/li>\n<li>Reports  significant events during watch to Captain.<\/li>\n<li>May  also be assigned other tasks as needed. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications  for the First Officer include graduation from a recognized maritime school. Candidates  will also need to have a minimum of three to five-years&rsquo; experience in  subordinate positions, and much experience in navigations systems and  computerized equipment.
