Like any other business, a cruise ship has to be able to ensure that it is going to make a profit. A number of accountants are hired to ensure that every department is operating within budget. It will be the job of the accountant to discover problems before they happen.<\/p>\n

Some of the responsibilities of an accountant are to prepare balance sheets, make profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Creating daily food and supply costs is another task. They watch trends so that they can see and predict future income and expenses. They also check inventories, cash accounts, gratuities, and taxes in the various departments. Payroll is another important task. Results are regularly reported to management.<\/p>\n

Accountants need to have formal training and a college degree. They also need to have one to three years of accountant or bookkeeping experience working in a large hotel or resort. They will also be expected to be able to speak excellent English. There are opportunities for promotion as an accountant.<\/p>\n
