The Chief Steward\/Housekeeper position is the lead position in the Housekeeping Department on a cruise ship. They provide leadership and supervision over the entire housekeeping staff, which also includes cabin services, the bell staff, and the handling of the passenger luggage and distribution. <\/p>\n
All responsibilities necessary for the smooth operation of the housekeeping department fall under this position – including hiring and firing. Housekeepers keep all areas of the ship clean with the exception of the crew areas, the ship’s offices, and the dining areas. The Chief Steward manages the staff, ensures budgetary limits are kept, ordering of supplies, ensures proper training, and more. <\/p>\n
Applicants for the position need to have a Degree in Business Administration or Hotel Management, excellent communication and management experience, and a minimum of three years of managing a housekeeping department – cruise ship experience preferred. You will also need to be able to speak English well, additional languages are even better, and be computer literate.<\/p>\n
