Chief Electricians

The Chief Electrician on a cruise ship oversees other electricians and electronic technicians. Together, they work on, operate, and maintain the electrical and electronic control systems on the ship, and the systems that they control.

The position of Chief Electrician maintains everything that has to do with electricity and electronics. This includes a large number of systems, including:

  • Communication
  • Light systems
  • Control systems
  • Power and engine systems
  • Navigation systems
  • Emergency systems.

They are responsible for the auxiliary equipment, such as lifeboat and tender systems, elevators, theater systems, washing machines, dryers, electrical kitchen equipment, etc.

The qualifications of the Chief Electrician include a degree in electrical engineering or a related field with authorizations to work on electrical systems. In addition, you will also need to graduate from a maritime training school, have experience working on a ship is also necessary, as well as being able to speak, write and read good English. You will also be expected to keep up with all related technology.
