Gift Shop Sales Assistants

This position may also be called: Retail Sales Person, Shop Assistant, or Sales Associate

The Gift Shop on a cruise ship offers a number of fine products and souvenirs for the passengers shopping delight. A Gift Shop Sales Associate is there to encourage sales, answer questions, and take care of their particular department.

In Focus: Merchandise Host/Hostess

Most Gift Shops on cruise ships sell a variety of retail items that have a broad interest to the ship’s passengers, which is usually jewelry, perfumes and cosmetics, souvenirs, and general gifts. The Gift Shop Retail Sales Person:

  • Provides assistance to customers with a friendly attitude.
  • Talks to passengers about their needs in terms of gifts.
  • Increase sales by upselling and cross-selling to meet pre-set financial goals.

They are also responsible for stocking of the shelves, managing displays, and being informed about special sales. They also participate in training activities for promotions.

Sales Assistants need to have experience in retail sales and customer service. They also must speak English clearly. Salary is partly derived from commission. This is an entry level position.
