Photographers & Videographers

This position may also be called: Photo Manager, Assistant Photo Manager, Junior Photographer, Videographer / Cruise Photographer

One of the most important things about a cruise is being able to bring back some memories of the experience. A cruise Photographer can provide that proof and a record of those memories – making their services in demand on every cruise ship.

The job of a photographer is to take pictures – portraits, events, beautiful scenes, etc. They are going to be constantly looking for great pictures on the ship and off of it when on tours. The goal is to take lots of great pictures or videos and then sell photo packages back to the passengers, so you will need to be very friendly.

The Junior Photographer can rise through the ranks and become an Assistant Photo Manager, and eventually the Photo Manager. Many photographers are hired without a lot of photography experience, but they will need to show that they have a lot of zeal, and ability to create sales. The position is not always a paid one, and if not, you will usually get a free cruise and food. Either way, there will be some long days. Salary will be partly based on commission, and you can expect to be hired through a concessionaire. Other shipboard duties are usually required.

Compensation: $1,800 – $2,400 a month
