Cruise ships have many systems onboard that are operated by computer. This includes most of the departments that use them to record their work, communicate with other departments, check email, get daily routines, check regulations or instructions, make or read records, finances, and much more. Like many businesses, the computer network forms a necessary backbone of the hotel operations and provides convenience for passengers.
The IT Tech performs such activities as upgrading hardware and software, configuring, operating and maintaining the network, the peripheral equipment, and any other computer systems. They also provide training for the users, and determines when and if there is a need for further training.
An IT Tech needs to have at least two years of college training in computers, and two years of experience maintaining and repairing them. Must be proficient in writing and speaking English, be friendly, and be familiar with major software applications. You will need to have some cruise ship experience. Contracts are often available for six months to a year.
