If you are actively going to go out and look for work the best time to plant yourself in a yachting community is in the spring and fall. You have a better shot at landing a job on a yacht if you can convince the captain to hire you based on your resume package and apparent availability. There are many yachting communities throughout the world. If you station yourself in some of the better known and heavily used yachting communities you will increase your opportunities of locating work. The following is a brief list of some of the popular yachting communities around the world.

  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida - The mecca of all yachting communities. Whether you begin here or not if you are in the business you will frequently visit Fort Lauderdale.
  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain
  • Southampton, England
  • Antibes, France - Another busy hot spot located in Europe.
  • Newport, Rhode Island - Mainly busy in the summer months, it gets pretty cold there in winter.
  • Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Phuket, Thailand
  • Gibraltar
  • Galle Harbor, Sri Lanka
  • English Harbor, Antigua - Make sure you have either permanent status as crew on a yacht or be prepared to show your return plane ticket upon arrival to customs.
