The W Hotels & Resorts chain was launched in 1998 and is a luxury boutique hotel brand managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The first W Hotel was the W New York, a modernization of an old hotel in the heart of Manhattan. The first hotel was such a success that development of more than a dozen new properties in colorful destinations - including Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, and Seoul - quickly followed in only a two year span.
The first few W hotels were mainly updates of existing hotels already under the Starwood corporate umbrella. Since then, this awesome brand has grown considerably! As of December 2011, there were more than 60 W Hotels around the world. More are opening every year.
W Hotels' design is central to their brand. They are hip and modern, and aim to offer comfort with iconic design. Every property features modern, minimalist design. But although each W Hotel has these traits, the brand also takes pride in having local influences touch each hotel and bring uniqueness to each property.
In the effort to create comfort and relaxation, W uses informal names for their rooms and public spaces. For example, the hotel lobby is referred to as the living room. Each hotel offers a signature restaurant and bar area that is meant not only to serve hotel guests, but to attract tastemakers from the destination as well. Renowned Chefs like Drew Nieporent, Todd English and Tom Colicchio are just some of the chefs that have opened restaurants at W Hotels.
W Hotels refer to their employees "talent." Hiring managers look for energetic, outgoing, innovative individuals who are naturally attracted to the W brand and "get it." The genuine connection to the brand and the passion for service are perhaps the most desired traits of potential candidates.
Employment with W Hotels opens up a world of opportunity for career growth around the world and within the Starwood Hotel family. With so many Starwood brands, the success an employee experiences at W Hotels opens the doors of promotion not only within W, but also with other Starwood brands, as well as at a corporate level.
W Hotels has numerous hotels projected to open in the coming year, with more projects in the works. This translates into more and more employment opportunities for prospective job seekers. Education and previous experience required will vary from position to position.
In addition to competitive pay and benefits, W Hotels offers training and development for their talent to ensure that associates are constantly growing and evolving.
