Disney Cruise Line was established in 1995 and is operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. The company head office is located in Celebration, Florida. From the outset, the Disney Cruise Line was established to attract families that want to spend time together on a cruise. Unlike most other cruises ships in operation today, the ones sailing as part of DCL don't have casinos.
Disney Cruise Line has three ships in operation: the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder and the newly launched Disney Dream. Their fourth cruise ship, Disney Fantasy will follow in 2012.
See the amazing Disney Dream in this video. The ship will feature the first ever onboard water coaster!
The company owns Castaway Cay. This private island is located in the Bahamas, and is used as a port of call for Disney Cruise Line ships.
Disney is always making improvements to its private little island. The place certainly has the 'wow factor' with water slides, dolphins and stingrays, and a lot more. See this video:
DCL Destinations
Disney ships take guests to the following destinations:
Alaska and Pacific Coast
Bahamas
Caribbean
Europe
Mexican Riviera
Panama Canal
The company also offers transatlantic cruises for guests interested in traveling from the Bahamas to Europe.
Activities
To accommodate the needs of families on board, DCL cruise ships offer youth clubs with age-appropriate activities. Entertainment offerings include live shows, visits from Disney characters, and Disney films.
A variety of restaurant choices are available on board the cruise ships. Families can grab a quick bite, savor the offerings of a buffet or eat at a fine dining establishment. The ships also include sports bars, lounges and nightspots so that the adult members of the family can relax and enjoy themselves.
The company was the first cruise line to set aside a deck specifically for children to engage in activities and a specific area for teens. The Disney Magic Vista Spa has the distinction of being named as one of the 10 best spas on a cruise ship by SpaFinder.
